Musician and artist Jazmin Bean is a paradox, a mash-up of saccharine sweet and a nightmare – but that’s exactly how they like it.“I want to influence the future by pushing boundaries politically, musically, in film, beauty, and in the mainstream media. A lot needs to change, and loud art is the best way to do it,” they explainon their aesthetic.

That in-your-face attitude permeates everything they do, particularly their music. “It’s my birthday, so I get to be a c*nt,” Jazmin sings sweetly on their single “Birthday Bitch” and in the accompanying video, smash up a birthday cake, before being later seen wielding a baseball bat studded with nails – painted baby blue, of course.

From their fave Tim Burton character to their guilty pleasure (spoiler alert: it’s songs from Glee), get to know them in a series of quick-fire questions below as they take our pop quiz, and head here to vote for their idea: creating a video project for their first album.

What clique were you in in high school.

Jazmin Bean: No clique – I had minimal to no friends and was often isolated.

Why do you do what you do?

Jazmin Bean: It keeps me motivated in every other aspect of my life and it’s so fulfilling. I feel like the world needs people that can elevate the outlook.

What issues are you most passionate about?

Jazmin Bean: I’m passionate about animal rights and police brutality and basically just changing the system we are trapped in, because it’s obviously not working out.

Who do you think is making real change in the world?

Jazmin Bean: People that are rebelling against the system we are living in are making the biggest changes, but also activists and people who push boundaries in all of the barriers we live in.

If you were in charge for a day, what law would you invent?

Jazmin Bean: If I was in charge for a day I’d remove all authority figures from being in authority and I’d make it a legal requirement for all cops to have the words ‘POO BUM’ tattooed on their heads.

Then I would ban the whole concept of how cops function right now because seriously this system is not working and we’re seeing that for the worst now. I’d also make it so that there’s a cap on how rich you can get. There are loads more things that I’ve missed, I could go on forever.

What does community mean to you?

Jazmin Bean: Community to me means people that can make you feel safe and are fighting for the same thing.

Jazmin Bean: I hope the world will be evolved and all artists will be pushing their visions to the extreme but the world will probably look like trash on fire :,(.

What’s a misconception people often have about you?
